Bread and Cheese Lane

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

A favourite in the area for myself and club mates, partly because of the funny name, mostly because it's a lovely little countryside lane with some nice punchy climbing mixed in (it's a bit of a dip down to a brook crossing so you drop and climb a bit whichever direction you ride it) and it's close to other lovely countryside lanes and punchy climbs.

Mangrove Lane

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

Lovely bit of country lane - not always the smoothest/flattest tarmac so best to familiarise yourself before really going for it!

Hertford Castle

Highlight • Castle

Enjoy the beautiful castle and castle grounds and River Lea.

Queens' College, Cambridge

Highlight • Historical Site

Queens' College is of the oldest and most prestigious constituent college in Cambridge. It was founded by Margaret of Anjou, Queen of England, almost six hundred years ago.

The college spans the River Cam with the oldest side being known affectionately as the 'dark side' by college students. The bridge connecting the two sides is known as the Mathematical Bridge. This picturesque, geometrically piece of functional art was first built in 1749 before being completely rebuilt in 1905 after one-hundred and fifty years of decay.

The college itself has seen a number of notable people from most avenues of life past through including astronauts, comedians, journalists, politicians, and authors. One of the most well known of the recent alumni is esteemed writer and comedian Stephen Fry, a proud supporter of Cambridge University.

Holy Trinity Church, Cambridge

Highlight • Religious Site

A church has been here since Roman times. One section of the current building dates back to 1189 and there have been many alterations and extensions to the building since then. The church is Grade II-listed.

Winding Lanes to Moreton

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

This beautiful winding lane takes you through farmers fields before dropping you in the cute town of Moreton. A cyclist friendly place for a mid ride pitstop and drink at the White Hart Inn. Along this stretch you will also find plenty of wild blackberries growing in late summer, and sloe berries in the fall - perfect for all your gin needs.

Rolling Hills of Essex

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

This section is really fun, with smooth rolling hills that are easy to pedal up. A really nice cruising road with green fields either side.

Epping New Road (B1393) Through Epping Forest

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

This section of Epping New Road is the main way to access Essex but it's unpleasant to ride on with 'road' wheels as the surface is chip 'n tar, the 'cycle lane' is very coarse and full of loose stones making it difficult to ride on. But the road, which is single carriageway is usually vey busy with fast moving traffic so it's best to turn off at the Robin Hood Roundabout and deviate through High Beech for a bit or respite; it's much more pleasant.

Little Stream in Epping Forest

Highlight (Segment) • River

Really nice to see little stream surrounded by moss and fern
