A generally moderately challenging 22.2 km. The walk followed a mostly flat, with an ascent to the monastery. Mostly a rocky track alongside the river, which flowed swiftly beside us for much of the journey.
Along the way, we stopped to view Abano Monastery, admire the striking travertine formations and take in a few other interesting sights. We also reached the Georgian border with Russia, a reminder of just how close we were to the neighbouring country.
The most colourful sights was the sulphur ponds, with their unusual hues and mineral formations. The highlight was the large sulphur pond on the return loop.
