A late afternoon hike to the magnificent 14th-century Gergeti Trinity Church, climbing from the base at around 1,400m to 2,170m in elevation.
The views of snow-capped Mount Kazbek were simply radiant in the late afternoon light. Once again, the landscape transformed around us, with deciduous trees adding a golden hue, vibrant green moss clinging to the escarpment rocks, and a crisp blue sky completing the picture.
We made our way back down the hillside, looking back at the town of Stepantsminda and the rugged mountain ranges beyond.
