Short ride. Easy pedaling. Smooth gravel most of the way through beautiful farmlands. Quite pleasantly, the wind pushed us much of the 4 miles to Olite! Wow, Olite is a gorgeous city. I never looked at pics of inside the walls prior to arriving, and couldn't have imagined it. Otherworldly...a must see & one should spend the day there. More farmlands...olive trees, broccoli, finished roma tomatoes going back to the earth, corn drying on the stalks, alfalfa (cover crop?) beginning to grow in the fields, song birds swooping around everywhere, raptors hunting, a dumpster of freshly picked broccoli waiting to be picked up, and solid walls of straw bales. Even a beautiful wall of olive oil barrels in Falces. Our favorite part of the riding was along the Arga River. Looking up at the cliffs on the other side of the river I realize I have much to read about the geology, the La Caza Reserve, and much more. This whole area of Navarre is fascinating! Arriving at dusk in Funes the sky was gorgeous.
