Fortunately find water a shirt distance up the track. That and a much better place to camp beside the trail at one of the old stations. Oh well. It's a gradual climb with some lovely views down to the river. Trail passes through a number of tunnels - some quite long and so switch light on. Surprised I meet no other cyclists. Just a few quad bikes. It's a long descent back down the other side and I reach the small town of Grand Forks early in the evening. Had seen there's a rec centre here so plan is to urban camp and use it tomorrow morning. Municipal park is the best option. Scope it out before it gets dark then ride to McDonald's and stop off at liquor store on the way back to the park. Pitch in dark but no one around and feels relatively safe. Fall asleep early but then woken around midnight by the sound of sprinklers being turned on. Tent gets soaked but fortunately the sprinklers turn off 30 min or so later.
