Hike for geologists, lava flows, strata and erosion. Dark and pale layers are lava, ash and the next layer is from a new eruption. The soft ash layers suffer million of years of rain and wind erosion leaving overhangs valleys and surviving pillars. Massive temperatures and rapid cooling from Hydrothermal alteration near the Roques de García/Las Cañadas area is the likely cause of the green rocks in the photo -the famous Los Azulejos colour
