A rather light cycling day today: we had a very short 4km trip first thing in the morning to the Hakodate ferry terminal. It was only 7 degrees though, so the ride was long enough for some cold fingers. Getting the tickets was easy and 45 minutes later we were on the ferry to Aomori waiting for departure. We got lots of konbini breakfast food, coffee and snacks the night before, so we were well equipped for the 3.5 hour journey. In Aomori we were greeted by very strong winds and rain, and we decided to first have some ramen before making the 21 kilometres to our camp site for the night. What became immediately obvious was the better road quality than Hokkaido. Hokkaido's roads are basically falling apart, while roads on Honshu appear much better maintained. We also managed to mostly cycle on empty side roads and only had a short section on a busy road with no shoulder. The camp site for tonight is free, next to an Ofuro, and we even had enough time for visit to Namioka's town centre.
