Packed the tent quite a bit wet this morning under the inquisitive eyes of old mate who we met the night before and headed straight into the first (and major) climb of the day, followed by a nice downhill section past an abandoned theme park into Shin- Yubari. It was still early, so all the melon vendors were still closed, otherwise we would have gotten some Yubari melons. Stopped at a closed road stop shop for a vending machine coffee and continued finally over flatter terrain again. We discuss potentially altering the Honshu part of the trip as well to flatter terrain because the mountains were much more tiring than what we thought. Then made our way into Chitose where we had some karaage lunch and stocked up for dinner and next morning's breakfast at a 7-Eleven. We then followed a nice cycle path that was, to our surprise, actually quite well maintained. It however started bucketing down and we were getting drenched for the whole hour that we needed to get to the Morappu camp site. After arriving at the camp site it luckily stopped raining but we had no chance to dry our wet stuff and clothing. We will somehow manage with the very wet gear tomorrow and booked a hotel for tomorrow night to have a chance to dry everything.
