Taschkent ist mit 3 Mio. Einwohnern die bevölkerungsreichste und Hauptstadt Usbekistans. Sie hat 3 U- Bahn-Linien mit 50 Stationen. Sie wurde 1966 bei einem Erdbeben stark zerstört und hat deshalb wenig historische Bauwerke.
Der Palast des Großfürsten Romanow wurde für ihn 1891 erbaut, als er aus Rußland nach Taschkent verbannt wurde.
Das Unabhängigkeitsdenkmal stellt 16 Säulen für die 16 Verwaltungsbezirke dar. Die Störche gelten als Symbol der Freiheit.
