A varied 13 km hike combining some of the best of Tsitsikamma National Park in one route: the Suspension Bridges and lookout, the forest of the Blue Duiker Trail, and the Waterfall Trail along the Indian Ocean. Expect panoramic views, giant yellowwoods, forest paths, caves, rock scrambling and a spectacular waterfall.

The hike starts at Storms River Mouth, where you’ll find a café and park shop for drinks and snacks. Follow the Mouth Trail to the famous Suspension Bridges, refurbished in 2026, before making the short but steep climb to the lookout for beautiful views over the river mouth and coastline. Descend again and cross the other suspension bridges.

After passing the café and shop again, continue onto the Blue Duiker Trail. This section takes you through lush forest with giant Outeniqua yellowwoods, small streams and bridges. Keep an eye out for the tiny blue duiker and colourful Knysna turacos. The trail can be slippery after rain.

After descending from the forest, join the Waterfall Trail, which follows the first 3 km of the famous Otter Trail. This is the most adventurous part of the hike, following the rugged coastline with sections that require scrambling over large rocks. Along the way you’ll pass Guano Cave, an archaeological site with evidence of early human activity.

The trail eventually reaches the beautiful Tsitsikamma Waterfall, where you can take a well-earned break before following the coastal trail back.

Good to know:
✅ The route is more demanding than the 13 km distance and ±270 m elevation suggest
✅ Wear proper hiking shoes, take care on wet rocks and forest paths, and allow around 4–5 hours
