Challenging but very rewarding: the landscape changes abruptly from alpine to Mediterranean. Once you’ve completed the first third of the route, it’s a steady descent. There isn’t much traffic. Italy really begins to work its magic the moment you cross the border: music, gelato, espresso. And shortly afterwards, you’re greeted by the Adriatic Sea with its breathtaking views. What a brilliant day!
