Embark on Scotland’s ultimate mainland challenge with the classic Mountain Track—historically known as the Pony Track—starting right from the Ben Nevis Visitor Centre at Glen Nevis. The route begins with a steady, well-graded climb over a series of zigzags that immediately test your legs while offering gorgeous, expanding views back down the glen and across to the surrounding Mamores.
As you gain altitude, the landscape transitions from lush lower slopes into a rugged, high-alpine environment, eventually passing the serene waters of Lochan Meall an t-Suidhe. The final stretch across the boulder-strewn plateau of the summit requires careful navigation and sure-footedness, especially as weather conditions can change in an instant. Standing proudly at 1,345 metres, the roof of the British Isles rewards your hard work with breathtaking panoramic views on a clear day, before you retrace your steps safely back to the valley floor.
