This is a wonderfully relaxed day out across Alpe di Siusi, the vast high-altitude meadow known in German as Seiser Alm. The gondola from Ortisei carries you directly to Mont Sëuc, where the walking begins with wide mountain views and the Sassolungo and Sassopiatto group dominating the skyline.
From the upper station, the route follows a mixture of broad tracks and quieter meadow paths past traditional wooden huts, working farms and several excellent places to stop for lunch or coffee. The terrain is never particularly technical, although the longer version of the circuit still covers a reasonable distance and includes several steady climbs.
What makes this walk so enjoyable is its flexibility. The full panoramic loop makes for a rewarding day on the plateau, combining wide mountain views, traditional alpine huts and rolling meadows. Although there are no technical sections, the route still covers over 15km with around 680m of ascent, so it should be treated as a full day in the mountains rather than a gentle stroll. Either way, it delivers enormous Dolomites scenery without the exposed ridges, scrambling or difficult terrain found on some of the region’s higher routes.
