So, this was supposed to be a short, easy ride today, which it almost was, except for a confluence of two things, Komoot decided to send me down a "road" that didn't exist. It used to be a path of some kind, but it was so overgrown that it could no longer be discerned as such. It was only 2.65 km long, so I thought "how bad could it be?" Well, pretty bad. At the same time as I started this segment, the skies opened up with a very localized and very intense rain shower. I was literally bush whacking while trying to stay upright while being pelted with rain. Luckily the worst of it was only about 1.5km or so, and the rain stopped fairly quickly. Wasn't at all impressed at the time, but it turned out to be type 2 fun... not fun at the time but kinda fun when looking back on it. It took me two stops at different shops before I got the chill out of me and a rhythm going. Still arrived in Espanola early and had to kill time at a restaurant across the street before I could check in.
