A fantastic 10km circular loop through the Kent countryside, specifically mapped and tested for dogs and their humans. We set out under glorious, cloudless skies, leaving the heavy gear behind for a fast, light day on the trail. This route offers a brilliant mix of shaded, ancient woodland tracks (providing a much needed cool canopy for the dog) and expansive, sun-drenched agricultural fields with hard-packed, fast-moving ground.
🐾 Traildog Notes:
Terrain & Stiles: Rolling farm tracks and minimal road walking. There are a couple of classic wooden stiles to negotiate; they are perfectly manageable, but smaller or older dogs may need a quick lift over.
Off-Lead Zones: Once you clear the village roads, the wide farm tracks and dense woodland corridors provide massive, safe stretches for your dog to bound ahead off-lead.
Livestock Watch: Mostly clear, but keep an eye out for standard Kent sheep grazing in the open valley fields be prepared to clip the lead back on quickly at agricultural boundaries.
Water Sources: The route crosses near the Nailbourne stream, but it can run completely dry in warm weather. You absolutely need to pack a dedicated water bottle and travel bowl for your dog on this loop.
🍺 The Finish Line: The Red Lion (Bridge)
The ultimate reward for a dusty 10k loop is a proper pub. The Red Lion in Bridge sits right near the trailhead and is exceptionally welcoming to muddy boots and tired paws. We bypassed the cozy interior for their fantastic outdoor setup to enjoy a weekend BBQ. Sitting in the sun with fresh food, an exhausted trail dog sleeping under the table, and an ice-cold, crisp cider in hand is exactly what this series is all about.
🚗 Parking:
The village of Bridge has on-street parking, but it fills up quickly on weekends. Arrive early and park considerately on the residential roads near the high street.
