To avoid using my car, I decided to pick up a used fitness weight using my bike and its oversized basket. Details of this latest eco-futuristic adventure follow ['sweat'].
The ride from Kehl to Lahr was speedy and uneventful, in 1h15 with my city bike. The return was, however, much more difficult: the extra 35kg and a strong headwind for over 1 hour made this challenging.
Moreover, my path had a large dirt mound to ride over. Upon riding down off this mound, the jostle broke the zipties that secured my rack to the bike frame! I was in trouble because this occurred midway in the ride, with no train stations nearby. After applying a temporary fix, I cycled to the nearest convenience store. And although the store had no zipties to sell, the cashier was gracious enough (thank you!!!) to give me several zipties so that I could affix the rack and ride again.
And I made it! Rather tired but satisfied to have avoided using the car. I hope this inspires you to also undertake #EcoMobileFeats , and look forward to your incredible feats!
