I took a couple of days in my 3 week German/Austrian vacation to get a hike in, so naturally picked a hike with the highest point in Germany! The weather on the first day was great offering amazing views of the gorge and valley. I enjoyed a night's stay at the hiking hut (don't have these in the US) along with a beer. The next day was the challenging part as the ascent really kicked in. After a break at the Knorhutte, continued climbing and climbing, through the snow fields and up some more. Once at the top, the weather wasn't the greatest and the views were impacted, but at least I got to touch the Golden Cross!
