Right after descending Mt. Adatara, I arrived at the Happodai parking lot—the trailhead for Mt. Bandai—around 10:30 AM, but it was completely full. However, since a few hikers were already heading home, I managed to get a spot after waiting for about 30 minutes.
I received multiple reports of bear sightings below the mountain hut, but luckily, I was able to complete my hike without encountering any.
A lot of people asked me, "Did you see the Bandai-kuwagata?" At first, I thought they were talking about a stag beetle (kuwagata), but after getting back down and looking it up, I realized for the first time that it’s actually a plant! Since it's an endemic species to this area, I regret not looking for it more carefully. That said, there were plenty of other alpine plants in full bloom along the trail.
After the hike, I wrapped up my day by visiting "Sunny Land Konan"—it's a bit far, but the entry fee for the bath was an incredibly cheap 200 yen.
