An iconic climb at a constant 9% for 16km will get you from the valley to the Col. Half the climb is through a vertical forest and half on a gravel road.
Tip - do it at the begining of the season, before it opens to cars and motorbikes, ideally after the Giro has been through! This way a road bike is fine as the gravel is perfect.
By the way the climb up to Sestriere will have you questioning your life choices if you push too hard on the col!
Also check the weather!! Conditions change quickly in the mountains.
