The 743d ‘Variante Piazzole’ — the trail-heavy way to ride the Bocca di Tovo classic, started from Riva del Garda instead of Arco. The climb is the familiar grind up the San Giovanni al Monte road past Doss del Clef and its odd summit cross. The variant branches off before Bocca di Tovo: a short forest track, and then the main course — a long, varied and demanding trail that keeps changing character all the way down, only letting go of you at the road just above Varignano. Shorter than the full classic, but denser: more trail, less transfer. For experienced riders who measure a ride in singletrack minutes, not kilometers.
