A spectacular via ferrata ascent to the summit plateau of Isola Tavolara — the towering limestone island rising 598 metres from the Tyrrhenian Sea off the northeastern coast of Sardinia, one of the most dramatic and iconic landscapes in the entire Mediterranean.
La Via degli Angeli — "The Way of the Angels" — is the classic via ferrata route on Tavolara, climbing the island's sheer vertical limestone walls from near sea level to the summit ridge.
The route requires a via ferrata set, harness and helmet, and involves sustained vertical sections with fixed iron rungs and cables bolted directly into the rock. The exposure is extreme throughout: the sea drops away on all sides as the route gains height, and the summit plateau — reached after 516 metres of ascent in just 4 km — reveals a panorama stretching from the Costa Smeralda and Capo Coda Cavallo to the distant peaks of the Gallura and the full sweep of the Gulf of Olbia.
Access to the island is by boat from Porto San Paolo, and the summit is a protected military zone.
