Hiking Stagno di Pitrisconi Loop – Coastal Lagoon & Flamingos, San Teodoro, Sardinia

3.11km

160m

170m

A short circular walk around the Stagno di Pitrisconi — a sheltered coastal lagoon on the northeastern coast of Sardinia, tucked behind the famous La Cinta beach near San Teodoro.

One of the most accessible and rewarding nature walks in the area, ideal for birdwatchers and wildlife enthusiasts of all levels.

The trail follows the lagoon perimeter through fragrant Mediterranean macchia and wind-shaped granite formations, with open views over the water at every turn.

The lagoon is a protected wetland and a significant stopping point for migratory birds: greater flamingos, black-winged stilts, great egrets, cormorants, herons, spoonbills and kingfishers are regularly observed.
Flamingos are present throughout the year, with numbers peaking between spring and early autumn.

📍 Start/End: Stagno di Pitrisconi, San Teodoro (SS) – Sardinia, Italy

📏 Distance: ~3.1 km | 🧭 Type: Loop

🎯 Difficulty: Easy | Terrain: Flat lagoon path, dirt track, Mediterranean scrub

📅 Best season: Year-round (best for birdwatching: early morning, spring and autumn)

🌐 Guided hiking and nature tours across Sardinia are offered by Best Sardinia Trips (Jebel Sardinia) – licensed local guides based in Orosei, with deep knowledge of the island's coastal landscapes and wildlife.
