This one takes in a few familiar routes and a new one over to Scammonden Reservoir all stitched together to make a great 15-miler.
The weather forecasts were so wrong! One said rain until 2pm, another said cloudy all day. As it was, the beginning was cloudy but by the time I was half way round it was brilliant. Then it threw it down, then sun again. All this made for interesting walking.
Following bits of the Colne Valley Circular (but anti-clockwise) I got up to the masts on Pole Moor and onto some cracking, broad tracks. These led to the New Hey Road then it was down through woods towards Scammonden Reservoir with the M62 thundering above it.
Rounding the res the path went through the woods on the other side to Deanhead Reservoir, now following the Kirklees Way. A steep pull got me back to the road then onto the Colne Valley Circular again down into Marsden.
I picked it up again on the other side of the valley but deviated to go into Slaithwaite (pronounced Slawit or Slath-waite) to get some milk. A walk along the Narrow Canal got me back to the car in a bit over 5 hours.
The pace is good, the fitness is questionable but there is only 4 weeks to North Yorkshire Ultra Challenge! Got to keep moving.
