We started at the car park by Attadale Gardens. The first 3 km are on tarmac, then it turns to gravel and the bike pushing begins. The steep section is proper tough for about 2 km, after that it’s a mix of climbs and descents all the way to Bendronaig Bothy.
We left the bikes on the path between 13 and 14 km and continued on foot to Loch Calavie. The signpost there is clear. The path up the first Munro is steep — initially along the stream on grass, then it gets rockier closer to the summit.
The views from Lurg Mhòr are breathtaking. The sharp ridge looking over Srath Mòr is impressive, and you can see the second Munro really well from there. To get to Bidein a’ Choire Sheasgaich (Cheesecake 😅) we had to drop down and go straight back up the grassy slope.
From the top, with good visibility, you can see the Torridon peaks, Isle of Skye, the Mullardoch hills and some of the Kintail mountains. Absolutely beautiful.
The descent back to the bikes is down a grassy path (can be slippery and boggy after heavy rain). The cycle back is much nicer — less pushing, more downhill and plenty of spots to stop and enjoy the views. Lochcarron stays in sight for most of the return.
In total we did about 27.5 km on the bike and 13.5 km hiking.
Definitely worth every minute spent in the hills 🏔️❤️⛰️🏴
