A mountain bike route from Batumi to Gonio and onward to the Makhuntseti area (often referred to as the Macha Bridge) is a perfect mix of coastline, countryside, and mountain scenery.
The ride begins along the Black Sea coast, where the road is relatively flat and easy, making for a smooth warm-up. As you pass Gonio, the landscape gradually shifts — the air gets fresher, the traffic thins out, and the terrain starts to roll gently upward. From there, the route heads inland toward the mountains, following a winding road along a river, surrounded by dense greenery and dramatic slopes.
As you approach Makhuntseti Bridge, the ride becomes more scenic and slightly more challenging, with moderate climbs and rewarding descents. The area is known for its historic stone bridge and nearby waterfall, making it a great spot to take a break.
Near the trout farm along the route, you’ll find several small local restaurants. This is one of those rare places where simple turns into exceptional: freshly caught fish, cooked right in front of you, served with traditional Georgian sides. Prices are relatively low, portions are generous, and the taste is about as authentic as it gets.
Overall, this route offers a balanced ride — not too extreme, but far from boring — blending sea views, mountain air, and a well-earned meal at the end
