Plateau near Laguna Islote - Puerto Williams
The night was quite bumpy again, but I’m now used to it I guess. After Opening the tent the first view was on the sharp mountain chain on the other side of the valley, catching the last red sunshine of the rising of the sun.
The sun started to heaten up the tent and I enjoyed my first breakfast in a sleeping bag. After getting something in the stomach, it was time to get up.
Everything packed together, I started the way back to Puerto Williams. With a short heads up, thanks to making yesterday some extra effort, it was no problem at all, that I kind of lost track of the trail and walked not the direct way uphill. Well happens to everyone.
I completed the last ascent of the trek which was followed by an much steeper descent of rolling rocks and no fixed path, I felt like half sliding, half walking down.
Then it was time again to face the never ending mud on the trail, passing along some lagoons and finally reaching again a forest, the last section of the trail.
To be fair it was an pain in the ass walking the along the muddy path and slippery wood, but the wild and untouched forest of Patagonia was a good counter weight to keep the balance.
The last kilometers they way was marked again with some colored bands on the trees, iit was for me quite difficult to keep track. Didn’t took long, I decided just to walk directly in the direction of the street where the endpoint should be. On my way down I met again some fellows not humans but animals. At first I was surprised by a pack of horses, which are heavily spread over the Island. They weren’t much into making some contact, so I quickly hurried further. Not long after I met an bull in seven to ten meters distance, now it was me who was not very interested in making some contact so we both stared nervously at each other for at least 30 seconds. Not knowing how to react, I pulled out me camera trying to get a picture before the bull would run me over. Luckily he was so irritated of the camera he quickly turned around and looked for another way. Too bad I was to late and couldn’t capture his big horns, but luckily I wasn’t run over.
Finally I have finished the southern most trail. Now I just needed to walk the last seven kilometers street back to Puerto Williams, thankfully a kind fisherman and his son picked me up and I could easily hitchhike my way back to Puerto Williams. Sidenote: It was also my first time hitchhiking.
Fastly heading into my hostel, I could escape the coming rain and rest without some wet tent or some rocks under my sleeping spot.
