Hello, fellow Wanderers! ✋
Today was… humbling. 😅
It actually took me hours to decide where to go.
Lately, nothing has felt particularly inspiring. And please don’t take that the wrong way — it’s not about the places. It’s about my mental state. Sometimes the spark just isn’t there, even when the world around you is beautiful.
After a lot of hesitation, I finally chose Montferland. It looked diverse and promising on the app, and luckily it wasn’t too far to drive.
And honestly? I’m glad I went.
Golden Light & Birdsong 🌅🐦
The weather was absolutely wonderful. The low sun cast a warm, golden glow over everything, making the landscape feel almost magical.
This trail really gives you variety:
🌾 Wide open fields
🌲 Moody forest paths
🌄 Beautiful viewpoints
🌳 An impressive mix of trees
And the birds? WOW. If you’re into birdwatching, this place is paradise. They were chirping away HARD. 😂
From Chaos to Calm 🌿
The beginning was a little hectic. There were quite a few people and several loose dogs, which made it feel crowded and slightly chaotic.
But as I climbed higher and moved deeper into the trail, everything changed.
The crowds faded. Long stretches opened up where I was completely alone.
Just me, the forest, and a symphony of birdsong.
That’s when Montferland started to feel special.
The trail itself offers a nice balance: gentle slopes combined with a few steeper climbs. Nothing extreme, but definitely enough to challenge me and get my heart rate up.
Was It Worth It?
Absolutely. Even on a day when I didn’t feel inspired, nature showed up for me. 🌿
✨ What makes this trail special?
✔️ Huge variety in scenery
✔️ Moderate challenge
✔️ Beautiful moments of solitude
⚠️ Things to keep in mind:
You’ll need to cross several larger roads
The starting area can be crowded
Quite a few loose dogs
Would I Return?
Yes!
especially in summer, when the trees are fully dressed in green. 🌳
This trail touched a soft spot in me, even though I can’t fully explain why. Maybe it was the light. Maybe the birds. Maybe the reminder that even on uninspired days, movement helps.
Have you ever hiked in Montferland? I’d love to hear which trail you walked.
Until next time
Happy wandering! 👋✨
