↔️ Distance: ~8.5 km
⬆️ Elevation gain: ~750 m
🎒 Level: Hard / Demanding
This is one of the most spectacular but also challenging hikes in Zermatt.
From Schwarzsee (2,583 m), the trail climbs steeply towards the Hörnlihütte (3,260 m) – the legendary base camp for Matterhorn climbers.
⚠️ The path is steep, rocky, and exposed in some sections. Not suitable for beginners or casual walkers. You need good hiking shoes, poles, water, and strong endurance. Weather changes quickly at this altitude – carry windproof and warm layers.
✨ Highlights:
• Constant views of the Matterhorn’s Hörnli ridge.
• Impressive glaciers and high alpine landscapes.
• Arriving at the hut feels like standing at the foot of the Matterhorn itself.
🚡 Access: From Zermatt → cable car to Schwarzsee → start of the hike.
