There's an alternative to this across stepping stones and along the B1232. However, looking at the stones a couple were displaced and steel spikes into the river bed exposed. I didn't fancy jumping a metre across the gaps aged 68, walking on my own!
But the strict route planned was fine. The one footpath across a field was ill defined but ok.
Swanaford Vineyard (vines pictured) sells white wines from £15 and champagne from £32. I bought a bottle of wine for later!
