Galdhøpiggen

Highlight • Summit

At 2469 m, it is the highest peak in Scandinavia. The normal route is a high-altitude tour over the Styggebrean (glacier) from the Juvasshytte, but the ascent from Spiterstulen is less complicated (3-5 hours each way).

That's it, I did it. The ascent wasn't difficult in itself, but the wind, the rain, and the fog came to complicate things. At the top I couldn't see anything with the fog, but it was still a nice climb. I was afraid it would be too easy a route but I'm satisfied.

Galdhøpiggen 2025 – in a blizzard, of course 🏔️🌧️ When Malde goes hiking, the weather roulette goes crazy again: first gray clouds, then snowfall in the middle of August – who needs a postcard idyll? 🤦‍♂️ We started off after a gravel road with a "cow blockade" 🐄, then straight into the boulder terrain – rocks, rocks, rocks, as if Norway had forgotten to pave a hiking trail. Plus two snowfields just waiting for someone to slip (spoiler alert: no one). Finally, we reached the top, started last, reached the summit last, and were rewarded with snowflakes in our faces ❄️. The descent, of course, was the same: slippery boulders, snowfall, cold fingers – classic Malde weather in 2025. But let's be honest: THAT'S exactly what makes it special. No summit without drama, no van life without an anecdote. Norway's highest mountain has been conquered—even if it'll surely send rain after me again. 😎

The descent is a thousand times more strenuous than the ascent! I have severe knee and Achilles tendon pain, but it's simply a must for every hiker! I did the ascent and descent without stopping and overtook countless people... That's probably why I was so sore at the end.
