Highlight (Segment) • Gorge

The gorge is simply grand. If it has rained enough, I recommend going all the way to the end. The waterfalls are simply beautiful. However, sure-footedness is an advantage.

October 31, 2022,Bletterbachschlucht - Südtirols Grand Canyon + Lahner Alm
Visit to the "Geoparc Bletterbach" in Aldein, east of Neumarkt-Auer. The gorge is part of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage. Thankfully, @PeRoStar 🙏👍👏 inspired us to this exciting and interesting tour. The Bletterbach Gorge, created by the Bletterbach over thousands of years, is considered the Grand Canyon of South Tyrol. The gorge cuts through five layers of sediment rich in …

Today we went to the Geopark. On a three-hour guided tour, we learned how the Dolomites were formed, what rocks they are made of, and which animals and plants live there.

We went through the impressive Bletterbach Gorge, which totally reminded me of New Zealand. We walked in and along the stream. We then climbed quite a few steps and …

The tour through the Bletterbach Gorge natural monument is not that big, but it is a challenge. The starting point is the Geoparc visitor center with parking for a fee. Helmets are issued there. Helmets are compulsory in the gorge for good reason! It is advisable to follow the other information about visiting the gorge.

Today we explored the lower part of the Bletterbach Gorge. We already got to know the upper part last year. The Geo-Park in the World Heritage Site is simply gigantic and a must for every hiker in South Tyrol. You walk through the natural gorge and have to find your own way, over stones and rocks and again and again …

Short hike through the Geoparc Bletterbachschlucht, the "Grand Canyon of the Dolomites".

At the end I cheated in a few more photos of Lake Karer.

Interesting hike with a lot of information about the history of the earth. Climbs very steep but well paved

There's great parking at the visitor center 🅿️, and they have helmets (which are mandatory in the gorge) and a restroom. All for €9 per person. And your car is included. That's great 👍

The kilometers and elevation gain somehow don't quite reflect the effort today... 😬.
But it was a really great route with lots of views and insights into Earth's history.
