Circular Hike around Göscheneralpsee

Highlight • Trail

Beautiful hike in the Uri Alps in Uri in Switzerland: This tour goes around the Göscheneralp reservoir. This circular hike is known for the scenic beauty of the glaciers and the surrounding mountain ranges.

The hike begins at the post bus stop at the Dammagletscher mountain inn. First you cross the dam wall. Then a narrow path to the right of the reservoir zigzags up to the first rock step and slightly uphill to the Älpergen junction.

Over the Planggen you reach a footbridge that passes the Dammareuss. Then the path runs slightly downwards into the Chelenalptal. Again you cross a footbridge. This leads over the Chelenreuss.

On the second half of this wonderful circular hike, you follow a wide mountain path onto a terrace with a wonderful view down the valley. In the Berg area, the path goes through a unique moor landscape with a few laying pines.

Walking downwards in the last section, you come back to the starting point at the postbus stop not far from the dam.

option A
You can combine the mountain hike with a visit to the Damma Hut at 2,440 m (length: 1.7 km / difference in altitude: 472 m).

Variant B
The circular hike can also be combined with a visit to the Chelenalp hut at 2,350 m (length: 3.8 km / difference in altitude: 543 m).

Variant C
Another possible combination is the mountain lake hut at 2,370 m (length: 2.3 km / difference in altitude: 419 m).

These huts also offer overnight accommodation and further starting points for challenging alpine high and climbing tours in the surrounding valleys.

Really great tour in a very nice area. We were able to enjoy it with very nice weather. Good shoes are highly recommended. Good starting point for further mountain tours. We will definitely be back 😊👍🐾

A beautiful circular hike, with a constant view of the crystal-clear mountain lake. All trails are beautiful, narrow. There are no huts, restaurants, or fountains on this route. So bring plenty of provisions or add a few more meters of elevation gain. There are two huts there: the Bergseehütte and the Chelenalphütte.

The hike is rather easy except for a few places.
Sure-footedness, a head for heights and good shoes are required.
Tricky spots are provided with chains.
The beginning is rather stony and rocky, the way back from Vorder Rüti also goes through moorland.
The parking lot at the Hotel/Gasthaus Dammagletscher costs CHF 1.00 per hour.
Of course you can also …

On Sunday, on my way home from Ticino, I spontaneously took the exit in Göschenen after the Gotthard Tunnel – why go home when you can also take a lake with you? So, up to Lake Göscheneralp! The weather was so magnificent in the early morning that only an epic hike could follow.

Today (yesterday) we went to the Göschener Alpsee again with our guests Dirty & Enrico. The view of the Damma glacier is very impressive. In general, this area has a special charm that always makes you want to go. The tour itself is easy to walk and with moderate altitude this time, it's manageable for our visitors...always happy to do …

My turn was later than planned, so there was only a leisurely round trip around the Göschneralpsee.

Everything T2, not difficult. In the back part of the Dammareuss the rocks are relatively smooth. It is therefore advisable to test beforehand whether the soles still have enough grip. 3 places are secured with chains. Not a problem in dry weather and …

Family hike around the Göscheneralpsee.
Unfortunately, the weather in the Göschenertal valley got worse and worse. At the end of the hike, it started to drizzle slightly.

A beautiful area. Actually, we had planned the panoramic trail towards Dammastäfeli. But at 1800 / 2000 m above sea level, it was simply too hot for us to exert 'great' physical effort 😅🤪. The 200m ascent at the back of the valley already cost us a lot of strength and sweat.
