View from Schneeberg

Highlight • Viewpoint

The striking massif of Wetterstein limestone with several peaks between 1,800 and 2,076 m has steep mountain sides on three sides and forms a geological unit with the western Rax (2007 m) - separated by the deep Höllental. The Hochschneeberg has a double summit: a gentle ridge connects the monastery's coat of arms further southwest with the Kaiserstein (2061 m) directly above the Fischerhütte. The strongly structured, karstified plateau has been supplying the Austrian capital with drinking water since 1873 via the 120 km long I Vienna High Spring Water Pipeline.

View from Schneeberg

Highlight • Viewpoint

Even during the ascent to the Schneeberg, impressive views open up. With every meter of elevation, the view expands over the Vienna Basin, the surrounding valleys, and the peaks of the Alpine foothills. A panorama that adds variety to the climb and quickly makes you forget the effort of the trail.

Klosterwappen

Highlight • Summit

A hike to the summit is one of the classic and most popular routes in southern Lower Austria. The "gentle giant" is equally popular in both summer and winter. The panorama is breathtaking. The next stop is the Fischerhütte (around 20 to 30 minutes on foot)

Relay station on the Schneeberg

Highlight • Structure

The relay station on the Hochschneeberg is a prominent radio station on the plateau and a clearly visible landmark. The facility offers expansive views of the high plateau and the surrounding peaks. A technical structure in the heart of the mountains, it often serves as an intermediate destination or landmark.

Damböckhaus

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Located in the middle of the high plateau, about a 15-minute walk from the terminus of the cog railway, lies the Damböckhaus. The refuge is a stopover on the nearly hour-long hike to the Fischerhütte.
