Fort Pezeries Gun Platform

There has been a fort on this spot since 1680. The gun platform was extended in the 18th Century. Today there are are three 18 pounder canons there pointing out to sea. The granite paved slipways nearby were built to enable local farmers to collect and dry seaweed (vraic) which they used as fertiliser and fuel. Les Pezeries means fish-drying site so seaweed wasn’t the only thing dried here.
