Aviemore to Boat of Garten Forest Trail

Highlight • Trail

After climbing at the south west side of Aviemore, riding downhill and flatter sections, suddenly you are riding quicker and on the brakes loads. I found myself riding with energy and strength in this fast flowing section

Ryvoan Bothy

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Ryvoan is a classic Scottish bothy, a haven on the open ground beyond the Ryvoan Pass. It's a popular shelter too, being relatively easy to access from Glen More.

There's a beautiful poem on the door by AM Lawrence, a poet from Burgh by Sands in Cumbria. The piece is called 'I Leave Tonight from Euston' and encapsulates the thrill of leaving civilisation to seek out wild places, such as those we find in the Cairngorms.

Legend has is that the water here is so green because the pixies wash their clothes in the water here. Or it might be to do with the trees. Whatever, it's an utterly lovely, slightly incongruous and therefore somewhat surprising place to spend a little time!

Aviemore to Glenmore Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

Very cruisey as a descent. Would be quite a long climb if done in the other direction. But a great place to improve confidence on a mountain bike for all ages.
