View of Puig Major

Highlight • Viewpoint

Puig Major is the highest peak in Mallorca. It stands out from the rest of the mountains in the Sierra de Tramuntana because it is the only one that has antennas and a radar at the top. This mountain is military property, so it can only be accessed with a special permit. In any case, it can be perfectly appreciated from the Cúber reservoir and the surrounding peaks. The views are gorgeous!

Cúber Reservoir

The driveway to the reservoir is worth it. From here you can start a circular route or simply continue along the GR path. The reflection of the mountains in the reservoir are fantastic and the free-roaming sheep give the area a magical existence.

Cúber Reservoir

Highlight • Lake

The reservoir is clearly one of the highlights of the area. The sea is a different color in every weather. The goat herds are sometimes quite shy, and you should keep enough distance.

View of Cúber Reservoir

Highlight • Lake

The Cúber reservoir is the largest reservoir in Mallorca. It is at an altitude of 750 meters not far from Puig Major, the highest point on the island. Construction began in the 1960s. In 1972, together with Georg Blau a few kilometers to the north-east, the area on which there used to be a rural property was flooded. The reservoir was built between April 1970 and June 1971. In 2001, Cúber was declared a hunting ground.

The reservoir owes its name to an old property that existed before Muslim rule. After the conquest of Mallorca by King Jaume I, the district of Muntanyes was the part of the island that the king reserved for himself and divided among the participants in the conquest. The majority was awarded to the Prince of Portugal and his military. Included in this last group of lands was Cúber's property.

The Embassament de Cúber is located directly on an important stage of the GR 221 in the Serra de Tramuntana. The calm body of water is surrounded by barren peaks and wide slopes, offering a striking landmark on the long-distance hiking trail. An impressive section that harmoniously combines vastness, mountain scenery, and route guidance.

Highlight • Lake

Easiest access to the lake, directly from the parking lot. The Cubersee is always worth a detour. Whether for a demanding hike, for a leisurely tour of the lake or something in between. In addition, you sometimes meet donkeys, cows and the like.
