Stork's Nest on the Chimney of the Former Segelke Bakery, Hornbostel

Highlight • Structure

In Hornbostel, there is a stork's nest on the chimney of the former Segelke bakery at Helene-Segelke-Platz, which has been used annually since 1999. The nest has established itself as a permanent breeding site. For over 15 years, the same male has returned regularly, accompanied by a female who has remained loyal to him for more than a decade.

The surrounding area, with its wet meadows and the nearby Aller lowlands, offers ideal living conditions for white storks. Here, they find abundant food such as frogs, insects, and small mammals. Especially in spring and summer, the storks' activities can be easily observed – from nest building to incubation to the rearing of their young. For cyclists or walkers, for example, on the Aller cycle path, the stork's nest in Hornbostel is a worthwhile stopover and a nature-based experience.
