The “St. Gebharde Abbey in front of large Schwülber” was built by Gebhard von Mahrenholtz. The latter had set up a poor foundation with all of his assets. In the abbey or poor house, rooms of 1.8mx 3.7m could accommodate up to 40 people in need, who were looked after by a hospital inspector. Each resident received 10 thalers for maintenance.
After the foundation's capital had been used up by the two devaluations of money in this century, the Evangelical Free Church took over the facility. It now houses rooms and apartments used for common purposes.
