A great discovery by chance on a road of the passes planned towards Nice via Ventoux. First pass to stretch your legs. Easy with a plus at the end. A magnificent climb especially towards the end in parts with hairpin bends with this "sugar loaf" in sight...". Absolutely to do...

View of Sanadoire rock

Highlight • Summit

The Sanadoire rock marks the limit between the Dores mountains and the Banne d'Ordanche massif.

This rock is the remains of an old volcano eroded by a glacier. The rock emerges as if by magic in the Cirque du Chausse located at the foot of the Col du Guéry.

The glacier that occupied the circus has indeed completely eroded the volcano leaving only two bases of lava: the chimney also called Tuilière and the cone called Sanadoire.

The Col de Guéry, located in the heart of the Auvergne region, offers a picturesque mountain pass experience amidst the volcanic landscapes of the Massif Central. At an altitude of approximately 1,267 metres, the pass offers stunning views of Lake Guéry below, the highest lake in Auvergne. The region is known for its tranquil beauty, with rolling meadows, dramatic volcanic peaks and forests that change colour with the seasons. Nearby Roche Sanadoire and Roche Tuilière add to the spectacular scenery, making it a perfect stop on your hike.

You can enjoy a drink and a light snack here, enjoy a free BBQ during the day, or pay for an evening meal upon request, and there's a small playground. There's also a fully equipped tourist information office with friendly staff where you can buy maps and ask for advice. It's the starting point for several hikes. There's a large parking lot right next door.

July 18, 2025,Lus van de Sanadoire rots –naar Lac de Servières rondtocht vanuit Vernines
The start/finish point is at a large parking lot with fantastic views of the Santoire rock and La Roche Tuillière. Paid access, and overnight stays are available. On the way to the lake: beautiful views, skylarks, crossbills, and coal tits (almost everywhere on the plateau if you go in the morning). The way back is more shady, mostly through the …

Today, finally, I took a walk that is nowhere in the top 10 lists. And once past the lake (apparently a popular picnic spot) we were largely alone in the world today. And we thought that was a very pleasant feeling

Superb hike! The GR30 has been modified, so the route is no longer quite the same. But well marked so no worries :)
