Saillon Old Town

Highlight • Historical Site

Saillon is a good stop on the vineyard path / Chemin du Vignoble: the houses of the old village flock around the castle hill, in front of the Café de la Poste you sit under the plane trees, as if you were much further south ...

Bayart Tower, Saillon Castle

Highlight • Castle

The Bayart tower is a 13th century tower which dominates the Rhône valley and the village of Saillon. The tower, part of the ruins of Saillon Castle, was built by Savoyard architect Pierre Meinier and named after a local landowner, Dame Bayart. You can climb to the top and enjoy a panoramic view of the surrounding area.

Farinet Suspension Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

Since June 2001, a suspended footbridge 92 meters long, ultralight and well integrated into the landscape, allows you to cross the Salentze gorges in complete peace and quiet. From this point of view, the walker discovers the grandiose panorama of the plain, the vineyard, the hillsides and the peaks which surround the valley.

Farinet Footbridge (Footbridge at Farinet)

Highlight (Segment) • Bridge

The bridge is a real highlight. She goes over a deep ravine into which a waterfall goes down. A rest area with trash can is also available. A gentle climb leads up to Pigeon, from where you have a great view! You can get to the bridge without any special equipment - the climb should not be a problem with enough stamina and experience. The inexperienced should not dare to go alone.

Salentze Thermal Spring

Highlight • Natural Monument

In the gorge of the Salentze, under the Farinet pedestrian bridge, springs a well-known thermal spring from Roman times. Currently it is used by the thermal baths of Saillon. Protected located natural paradise. It is here where the painter Courbet painted his picture "Grotto of the Giants".

The historic center of Saillon is very beautiful. The Hüngebrücke is also worth it! Overall a great tour, albeit with a steep climb at the beginning!

Showing Translation

We hiked from Saillon to the Farinet (smuggler and counterfeiter) suspension bridge in sunshine. Suddenly, the rain started pouring down! Farinet was shot by police in the Salents Gorge in 1880. After about two hours in the rain, we headed to the thermal baths to warm up.
