View of the Notre-Dame de Sénanque Abbey

Highlight • Historical Site

Northeast of Gordes lies the Cistercian monastery of Notre-Dame de Sénanque. It is one of the most photographed buildings in Provence. With a few interruptions, monastic life has been taking place in the monastery again since 2009. Only part of the monastery is open to the public.

From the D 177 country road you can see the monastery almost from a bird's eye view. It is a wonderful sight, especially in early summer, when the lavender fields in front of the monastery building bloom in bright purple colors.

Abbaye de Sénanque

Highlight • Religious Site

You will pass the abbey on the way over the Col de trois termes towards Gordes. The view over the lavender fields to the abbey is absolutely worthwhile. A pleasure for the eyes and the sense of smell.

View of Gordes

Highlight • Viewpoint

From the Route de la Combe, the view of Gordes is truly breathtaking. This hilltop village, one of the most beautiful in France, is revealed with its dry stone houses that seem to hang on the hillside. In the background, the rolling landscapes of the Luberon add a touch of magic to this panorama. The road winds through Mediterranean vegetation, between olive trees and holm oaks, offering a new perspective on Gordes at every moment.
