Sanctuary of St. Anne in Smardzewice

Highlight • Religious Site

In the 16th century, Smardzewice belonged to the parish of Nagórzyce. The first wooden church of St. Anne was built in the years 1621–1622, funded by the Bishop of Kujawy, Paweł Wołucki, and dedicated in 1642. The temple was situated in the place where in 1620 St. Anne appeared to the local farmer, Wojciech Głowa, together with Jesus and Mary. Due to the increasing number of pilgrims, Bishop Maciej Łubieński brought the Conventual Franciscans to Smardzewice in 1639, for whom he founded a wooden monastery. In the years 1683–1699, a brick church was built as a votive offering from the Bishop of Warmia, Stanisław Zbąski, in gratitude for the graces received, especially the gift of health. The temple was dedicated on 6 October 1701 by Bishop Andrzej Albinowski. Next to the church, from the foundation of the Bishop of Włocławek Krzysztof Szembek (later Primate of Poland), a brick monastery was built in the years 1722–1746, and the entire complex was surrounded by a wall. The parish in Smardzewice was established on 26 July 1775. Less than a hundred years later, in 1864, the tsarist authorities dissolved the Franciscan monastery in Smardzewice. This was a form of repression against the monks for their help given to the January Uprising insurgents. The care of St. Anne's Church was taken over by the priests of the Sandomierz diocese. In 1971, with the consent of Bishop Piotr Gołębiowski, the Franciscans took over the institution again. The church and the monastery form a quadrangle. The temple is a Baroque, oriented building. The main nave is clearly distinguished, the presbytery is slightly higher. The main altar of St. Anna dates back to around 1700, and houses a miraculous painting of St. Anne from the first half of the 17th century in regency-style dresses. diecezja.radom.pl/smardzewice-parafia-pw-sw-anny-sanktuarium

It is worth stopping on or near the bridge - especially since there is a plaque commemorating General Tadeusz Buk, who died in the Smolensk disaster. You can find out who the general was.

President Ignacy Mościcki Bench

Highlight • Monument

The monument was created as part of the project to revitalize the center of Spała. A small island was created near the pond on the Gać River, accessible by a wooden bridge. A monument to President Ignacy Mościcki was placed in its center. The president sits thoughtfully, ready to hunt, accompanied by his faithful dog Lord. Tourists can sit on a tree stump next to the president.

The ceremonial unveiling of the monument, which was created thanks to the cooperation of the Inowłódz commune with the Local Tourist Organization in Spała, took place on August 16, 2020.

Before the outbreak of World War II, Spała was the favorite vacation spot of President Ignacy Mościcki, who was the president of Poland in the years 1926-1939. He spent every free moment here, and he used the place not only for relaxation, but also for establishing political relations, because he received distinguished guests here. Over the years of his rule, he contributed to the development of this small town located in the Pilicka Forest. Mościcki not only beautified Spała, but also contributed to the flourishing of social and political life in this town. He was the organizer of the Spała harvest festival, hubertus, hunting, scout jamborees, car and motorcycle rallies, and numerous sports Spartakiads.

Spała

Highlight • Settlement

It is true that I do not understand the phenomenon of Spała and the crowds in the summer, but for example the pizza in the Olimpijska Restaurant is delicious, it is also worth visiting Karczma Spała - delicious food.
