Tacoma Narrows Bridge

Highlight (Segment) • Bridge

Can be breezy at times once you clear the trees on either end, especially in the fall and spring.

While descending from the west side (Gig Harbor), there is an entrance to the trail on the right hand side near the bottom of the hill. Watch out for cyclists entering the path and not watching for others barreling down at them at 30+mph.

There have been several auto/bicycle accidents at the Jackson Street off ramp. Exercise caution when crossing Jackson Street.

War Memorial Park

Highlight • Monument

This area served as a staging area for the construction of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge and was later donated by Harold Woodworth. Within the park, you can find a bell from the USS Tacoma from WWI and a memorial dedicated to the memory of 162 residents who lost their lives in the war.

Owen Beach

Highlight • Beach

If you’re looking for a nice waterfront view enjoy the speedy descent to a freshly renovated beachfront park (renovation c. 2022 summer), public restrooms, water fountains, green space to sit down on, picnic benches, kayak rental and of course a pebbly beach with views of Mt. Rainier on a clear day. Watch a ferry pass to Vashon Island to muster the courage to head back up the 15% gradient to return to 5 mile drive!

Salmon Beach

Highlight • Settlement

Salmon Beach is a remote, unknown, and quirky neighborhood of 82 houses with 200 steps dividing it from the rest of the world. This special place was a gem for bootleggers in the 1920s and hippies in the late 1960s looking for seclusion. It is now home to many artists and those who enjoy solitude from the city limits.
