Going up the Sagittario river to its sources, after having traveled a few kilometers of dense gorges and continuing beyond the village of Villalago, Lake Scanno opens up to view, a basin of natural origins formed over 3000 years ago due to a large landslide detached from Mount Genzana which blocked the flow of the river Tasso. Located at 922 meters above sea level , is also known for its characteristic heart-shaped conformation that can be admired from the top of its surrounding mountains.
