Beware, the ferryman tried to charge 100 euro to take me over. I waited him out until other people showed up. Then it was 10 euro.

Was worth the wait...

I cycle this beautiful beach on October 2022 with a heavy loaded bike (~50kg including bicycle) and it was exhausting. It's almost 30km and you can't take the trails in the national Park. So make sure the condition are good if you plan to cross with loaded bicycle and cycle at low tide.

Plan your visit well, especially if you go by bike, so that the high tide does not catch you, as the sand "becomes soft" making pedaling very difficult.

Here are two more useful pieces of information:
- The national park may only be entered/accessed between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. If you exceed the time, you risk a fine of at least €600... In the evening, the beach is also driven off again (according to the national park guard) - so plan your time
- Sand on average fairly compact and passable. Rideable 2 hours before and after low tide. Best when the water is draining. Now and then there were soft passages.
- Feasible with gravel bike or touring bike with luggage
- There is no shade on the way (even behind the dunes :))
- In Matalascanas at the bp gas station there are washing boxes for cleaning and desalinating the bikes

Highlight (Segment) • Beach

The section from Matalascañas to Sanlucar (about 30 km) can only be done at low tide and with wide tires. With thin tires you have to let out a lot of air. We drove it with 40x622 tires and a total weight of about 100 kg. The ferry to Sanlucar stood on the shore and was waiting for us.

A great ride for something different. 29 kilometers on the beach. Our research said to ride on a falling tide approximately 4 hours after peak tide.. We had to push bikes off and on for the past 5 kilometres due to soft sand as we approached Matalascanas.
The nearly 30 km along the beach, including the dog trailer and luggage, was a truly tough hike, and one that only works at low tide. This means that when the water reaches its lowest level at 12:00 PM, you have two hours before and two hours after (so, from about 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, a total of four …
