Hudson River Greenway

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

This continuous Greenway actually runs all the way from Battery Park at its south end past the George Washington Bridge and ends in Inwood at the north end of Manhattan. It can be busy with joggers and tourists on nice days (especially through midtown), but there's a dedicated bike lane which is protected from car traffic, and it's offers great views of the water. Excellent way to travel North/South through the city with minimal interruption.

9W between Englewood Cliffs and Alpine

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

Broad bike-friendly shoulders. Several traffic lights along the route night slow you down.

Climb up to Alpine

Highlight (Segment) • Climb

No separate bike path, but (mostly) broad shoulders. On weekends, this part of the road is packed with bikes.

9W Market

Highlight • Cafe

On this side of the Hudson River you can enjoy nature, but there are few opportunities to strengthen yourself. However, there is both a small shop and a burger joint here. Friendly service, good food and even vegan on request.

The Little Red Lighthouse

Highlight • Monument

Iconic building straight out of a picture book. Even if the approach to the bridge from here is a little complicated, the detour to the lighthouse is worthwhile.

Finally escaping the city, enjoy the non-stop ride along the banks of the Hudson River. To the north, you can either cross the river over the G. Washington Bridge and continue on the Jersey side, or continue through the Bronx to the Empire State Trail via Manhattan's highest point.

Hudson River Greenway Riverside Walk

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

The Riverside Walk offers a smooth, car-free path with scenic water views and a few Sakura trees that bloom in the spring. The straight, easy-to-follow trail passes through parks along the way, making it a pleasant urban ride. Shared with walkers, it's important to stay aware of others, especially when busy.

Hudson River Greenway Overpass

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

This route follows the Hudson River Greenway all the way along the west side of Manhattan. 100% bike path, no cars at all. It is a little less crowded on the northern section of the segment, but gets much more crowded in the southern segment. You have the option of continuing up the the GWB pedestrian walkway to ride across the bridge or continue north along the bike path to cross into the Bronx and take the empire trail as far north as Poughkeepsie.
