Pilgrimage Church Herrgottsruh

Highlight • Religious Site

According to an old tradition, its origin goes back to a citizen of Friedberg who made a pilgrimage to the Holy Land between 1300 and 1350. On his way back, he was taken prisoner by the Turks and vowed to build a chapel modeled after the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem upon his return. Thanks to his fortunate return, he was able to fulfill this promise.

The present pilgrimage church was built in 1731. It impresses with its three-aisled architecture and the magnificent choir rotunda. The interior with its seven domes is particularly fascinating, appearing surprisingly light and spacious. The baroque ornamentation and the delicate stucco work in the best rococo style give the church an elegant atmosphere.

In addition to the pilgrimage church, you will also find a Lourdes grotto and a Dreikönigskapelle (Three Kings Chapel) – perfect places to let your soul relax and let the history sink in.
