Pleasant Climb Near Open Fields

Highlight • Climb

It's quite a pleasant climb, the road was quiet and wound upwards past some large open fields on the left. It's not a steep climb, a much more gradual affair

Good idea to plan a route making this your midpoint rest break or final pick up point.
Beware, on a cold hard day it may be hard to leave such a cosy cafe!

National Memorial Arboretum

Highlight • Natural

Built to honour the lives of those who died during conflicts, the National Memorial Arboretum is an interesting place to visit, especially if you are interested in military history. You can learn more about Britain's conflicts at the exhibition galleries or reflect on the tyranny of war at the restaurants, cafe and courtyard garden. The arboretum has over 30,000 trees and 350 memorials.

A church service takes place in the Millenium Chapel of Peace every morning at 11am, when the Last Post is played. The arboretum is open from 10am - 4pm. You can find more information here: thenma.org.uk

Fradley Junction

Highlight • Structure

Fradley Junction, where the Coventry Canal meets the Trent & Mersey Canal, hosts a great little café over-looking the canal, with facilities in the courtyard. A pub, nature reserve and action at the canal locks make this a great place to have refreshments after your run. Can get a little busy due to location.

Take-away with outdoor, canal-side seating. Open 7 days a week for cooked breakfasts, mid-morning snacks, cakes and coffee.

Lichfield Cathedral

Highlight • Historical Site

Lichfield Cathedral is a stunning medieval church and the only cathedral in England with three spires. Built from 1195 to 1340, the cathedral wasn't always a calm place – it was severely damaged during the English Civil War. During this time, soldiers demolished the central spire, smashed the stained glass and damaged the roof. The destruction was only fully repaired in the 19th century.

You can visit the cathedral from 9.30am - 5pm Monday to Saturday and from 12.30pm - 5pm on Sundays. For more information, visit: lichfield-cathedral.org
