Schildau Castle was first mentioned in 1281 as a knight's fief, and over the centuries it has been repeatedly expanded and rebuilt. Like many others, this castle was nationalized after 1945 and used for many years as an administrative building for a farm and as a holiday home. It fell into disrepair in the 1990s and finally burned down in 2002.
