Cycle and pedestrian path of the Olivetana Abbey

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

This stretch of cycle/pedestrian path runs through the splendid countryside between the towns of Rodengo Saiano and that of Gussago.

The surface is dirt but very compact and can therefore be tackled with almost all bicycles, with the exception of the more "road" ones.

The route takes its name from the Olivetana Abbey, which presents itself as an ideal destination for a day of contemplation and tranquillity, also to be experienced in company. Of particular value are the cloisters, the frescoes by Romanino and the gallery that gives access to the monastic cells is not to be missed.

Passirano Castle

Highlight • Castle

Built in 1100 for defensive purposes, the Passirano Castle preserves its massive walls, the ancient moat on one side and the two semi-circular towers including the Torre della Specola, used as an astronomical observatory in the 18th century. The Ghibelline battlements, dating back to the 17th century, are visually striking. The entrance portal dates back to the 18th century.

Inside the Passirano Castle there is currently a winery producing Franciacorta wine.

Castello di Bornato

Highlight • Castle

Built in 1280 by the will of Everardo Bornato, the castle of Bornato (or Villa Orlando for the name of the family that owns it since 1938) is surrounded by a circle of crenellated walls in rough stone and surrounded by a well-kept Italian garden.
It is now open to the public for tours and wine tastings.

Highlight • Structure

When cycling between the vines, it is not uncommon for you to feel like having a glass. Here you can take a guided tour with a tasting and pick up a bottle to toast in the shop after the tour.

Borgo del Maglio of Ome

Highlight • Historical Site

The Borgo del Maglio, composed of a nucleus of rural buildings, is included in the Trompia Valley Museum System and sees the presence of two museums:

Il Maglio Averoldi Museum: forge of the fifteenth century, characterized by a functioning water wheel that still moves the hammer today and which allows you to watch iron working demonstrations.

Pietro Malossi House Museum: presents a large and varied private collection of cultural assets, from weapons to furniture, from prints to paintings.

A day of uncertain weather that then opened up allowing for a very pleasant ride. A truly gravel route with the bare minimum of asphalt, the heavy ground from the rains of the last few weeks actually gave its best. Thanks to Boostevents for the excellent organization, the refreshments, the pasta party and the bike wash done by them.

Edition 0 of Franciacorta Gravel; very scenic and rough route never difficult. I recommend tires with a large section (I used 45) and knobby to have the most fun on single tracks which can be very muddy. Congratulations to the organization. #franciacortagravel2023

Franciacorta is just sparkling.
Long route of Franciacorta gravel 2023 which however I tackled starting from Iseo instead of Ome.
In the first part, after passing the center of Paratico, you skirt the right bank of the Oglio in a succession of ups and downs.
Once you reach a level crossing you cross the river and you have to pay …
